This evening I was able to get round to seeing Spielberg's latest film Disclosure Day. In short, I found it disappointing. I don't like to rip on films for the sake of it. To paraphrase something I've heard somewhere before, "any film released is a miracle" [if you know who said it do let me know].

Yet, is it wrong of me to expect something more from a veteran filmmaker like Spielberg? This isn't a terrible film, but I feel like I could have spent the best part of 3 hours doing something more interesting.

Part of the disappointment stems from still thinking about Backrooms which is the first feature film directed by Kane Parsons, who is currently 20 years old. Is Backrooms the best film ever made? No. But so far it is the most interesting film I have watched this year and is far more interesting, engaging, and thought provoking than Disclosure Day.

I got a good feeling of what he was trying to get across, but he took too long to get there, and the pay off just isn't there.

Today had been a good day for writing, in large part spent writing about Backrooms. So to then "experience" Disclosure Day has got me down a bit. So think of this post as a bit of therapy.
